Blindspot
Blindspot is an expansive series of photographic and ink works documenting homelessness across the globe. While employing the visual language of black-out poetry, the series alludes to the medical definition of ‘blackout’
– a transient dulling or loss of vision and memory.
The work confronts the way in which economically disenfranchised people
are treated with anonymity in today’s societal structures.
We pass by the homeless as if transparent, on a daily basis with a blind-spot in our vision,
failing to engage with them on a humanistic level.
While blocking the subjects out of their environment draws attention to the figures in their absence,
the inking-over displays the sense of a private and personal space as non-existent,
as people are forced to perform their most vulnerable and intimate activities, such as sleeping, in public.
