A Collaboration Between Faith XLVII and Koleka Putuma
In partnership with The Center for the Less Good Idea,
this billboard project confronts the pressing issue of Gender-Based Violence in South Africa.
EVERY THREE HOURS
“South African women are resilient.
Their strength runs deep, down to their very marrow.
They have endured immense suffering, yet they continue to sing.
It has been a profound honour to know such women.
Time and again, I have been humbled by the unyielding resilience of friends who have faced inexplicable pain.
During the first three weeks of lockdown, over 120,000 cases of Gender-Based Violence were reported across the country.
We are weary from the relentless tide of tragic news.
Our sisters, mothers, grandmothers, and children are being violated, abused, and murdered.
Collaborating with Koleka Putuma on this project is a responsibility I do not take lightly.
Koleka is a powerful voice, and her words compel us to confront the realities of what is happening.”
These words, penned by Liberty Du, widely recognized as Faith XLVII, a South African multi-disciplinary artist,
reflect the gravity of the issue and the deep commitment to this project.
