THE HUMAN CAUSE, 2020
The Human Cause I, II, III
280 x 134 x 35cm
Brass and Wood Sculpture
The Human Cause investigates the symbol of the flag.
Conjuring impressions of nationhood, idealism, of manifesto.
The Flag stands for ideology, the exploitation of resources,
dominating power structures and colonial empire.
Of military conquest, defense, expansion, national identity, cultural identity,
peace, community, ethics, rebellion, freedom, dignity and oppression.
This truly emblematic human creation speaks to inherent human struggles.
Our deep need for communion and our exhausting capacity for greed.
The flag itself is naked.
A blank object standing as a totem for our projections,
mirroring the human race, in all of our honor and malfeasance.
